Defiant is a limited-edition commemorative candle inspired by the early days of the American Revolution. Created for America’s 250th anniversary, this hand-poured patriotic candle captures the atmosphere of colonial harbor taverns where merchants, sailors, craftsmen, and patriots gathered to debate the future of a nation not yet born.

Before shots were fired and independence declared, revolution was whispered across crowded taverns and waterfront inns. Ideas of liberty spread not only through speeches and pamphlets, but through countless conversations held by candlelight among ordinary people determined to shape their own future.

Defiant captures the spirit of those restless evenings. Notes of black tea pay tribute to the cargo that ignited outrage in Boston Harbor and became a symbol of resistance throughout the colonies. Beneath it, warm tavern tobacco and hints of spiced spirits evoke the gathering places where patriots exchanged ideas and challenged the authority of an empire. Together, they create a fragrance that is rich, warm, and quietly rebellious.

Each candle is finished with an engraved bamboo lid designed exclusively for the America 250 Collection. The top of the lid features words adapted from the Declaration of Independence: “…that whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new Government…”—a bold declaration of the principles that inspired a revolution. The underside commemorates April 19, 1775, chosen to honor the Battles of Lexington and Concord, widely regarded as the opening military engagements of the American Revolution. It also includes the candle’s signature fragrance notes, paying tribute to the ordinary citizens, militia members, and patriots whose actions on that day transformed years of debate and resistance into a struggle for independence.
