A Journey of Formulation, Exploration, and Meaningful Moments

At 95indies, we believe the right product can do more than nourish your skin or scent your space—it can anchor a memory, spark joy, or create connection. From skincare to home fragrance, everything we make is rooted in intentional formulation and the art of experience.

My Journey Into Formulation

I’m Melissa—the founder of 95indies—and my journey into this work began over 25 years ago when I first started exploring the benefits of essential oils. What started as a personal interest grew into a deeper calling. Eleven years ago, I began formal studies in aromatherapy and cosmetic formulation, completing advanced training at international schools and earning certifications in organic skincare and personal care.

Building a Lab for Innovation in Evans, GA

In 2021, recognizing a need for professional-quality formulation outside of large corporate labs, we invested in building our own dedicated lab and manufacturing space in Evans, Georgia. Today, 95indies operates with the same level of precision and care expected of much larger brands—while remaining true to the soul of small-batch craftsmanship.

From Ingredient Access to Industry Recognition

In 2022, I was honored to be named one of only five U.S. finalists in Provital’s global Rising Stars Challenge—an international cosmetic formulation competition. Winning my category affirmed that I could compete alongside top formulators worldwide and fueled my mission to bring innovation to smaller, independent brands.

Supporting the Indie Beauty Community

Over the years, we’ve cultivated relationships across the global cosmetic industry, giving us early access to ingredient innovations and formulation techniques used by leading manufacturers. Our work with indie beauty brands keeps us grounded in what matters: efficacy, elegance, and responsible sourcing.

I saw those same brands struggling. Too many small, independent beauty brands could not gain access to cutting-edge ingredients in quantities they could afford. That insight sparked the beginning of 95indies—not just as a product line, but as a resource for makers, creatives, and curious minds. We started by offering small-batch repackaging services for hard-to-access ingredients, and from there, grew into formulation, brand development, and eventually our own line of small-batch skincare, fragrance, and lifestyle goods.

Educating the Next Generation of Formulators

My time serving on the Membership Board of the Society of Cosmetic Chemists wasn’t just about professional growth—it was spent with the aim of advancing membership and recognition of indie beauty brands within the most highly recognized professional organization in the cosmetic chemistry industry. One of my long-term passions is helping young adults and teens discover the many creative and scientific career paths available in the cosmetics industry, an often-overlooked field full of opportunity and innovation.

What’s in a Name?

In 1995, while serving in the U.S. Air Force and stationed in Japan, I met my husband. That year marked the beginning of a love story and a life rooted in adventure, family, and connection. 95indies is a tribute to that beginning—a name that reflects the warmth of home, the thrill of discovery, and the independent spirit that defines everything we do.

More Than Products—We Create Moments

Whether it’s rainforest oils in a serum, a candle that reminds you of home, or a tray that sets the tone for your morning routine, 95indies is about more than just products—it’s about the experience. Our Indie Sessions are a natural extension of that mission: hands-on gatherings that bring people together to make something beautiful, try something new, and connect in meaningful ways. Whether you’re designing a body oil, pouring a candle, or sharing laughter over a new scent, these sessions are a space to…

Welcome to 95indies. I’m so glad you’re here.
